    Wet footbox on my quilt

Hi there hangers got a question about my topquilt footbox being wet every morning when i wake up. I use a hg econ 30 and use a foam foot pad under my feet. I just finished up a week long hike on the bartram trail and even when it wasnt wet outside my foot box was wet on the top every morning. Just curious if anyone has some insight on this issue and if theres anything i can do to prevent this from happening.

    Thanks

vapor barrier (foam pad) seems to be causing condensation accumulating in your foot box.

Try throwing your coat/jacket down at the foot end of the hammock and rest your feet on that.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Get hold of some bread bags to us as Vapor barrier liners in your foot box, either with or without socks over them(you probably will prefer a pair of thin liner socks under the bread sacks for a better feel). That will be the end of your wet foot box. Your feet may over heat and sweat if socks( when over VB socks) are too thick, or foot box too warm), but if so the sweat will still be contained next to your feet and can not get into your insulation.

Some folks(like Shug)put their foot pads inside the foot box. Condensation happens when warm vapor contacts cold and condenses to water. Just like your breath on a cold day, or the outside of a cold glass. A pad inside the foot box will be warmer, thus there may be less condensation.

Is it making contact with the underside of your tarp maybe? Could just be moisture from condensation rubbing off onto your quilt.

I've had the exact same thing happen under similar conditions. Without the pad there is no wetness. With the pad under the foot end I get a damp patch on the quilt. Pretty sure the pad is acting as a vapor barrier and moisture passing through the quilt condenses there.

I use a piece of open cell foam on top of my closed cell pad. The open cell pad is a bit damp, but the quilt is dry. The pad dries much faster than my quilt would.
