    Under quilt suspension cord question.

Assuming continuous cord through the edge of the quilt, ala Warbonnet Yeti style, should I use shock-cord all the way, or would it be better to use half shock-cord and half non-stretch cord.

The non-stretch cord is lighter, and I'm concerned that the long shock-cord would sag if not of substantial weight. I'm thinking of using about 30" of shock-cord at each end of the hammock and non-stretch cord through the quilt, plus a few inches outside the quilt to allow the quilt to slide along the non-stretch portion.

Has anyone had experience with this style of setup?

it would depend on the diameter of the shock cord, 3/32 or 1/8 would give large differences. My summer neat sheet underquilt weighed down the suspension of all 3/32 shock cord.

Sounds like I could control the tension better by using some non-stretch cord, therefore keeping the shock cord shorter and more taunt.

    Shock cord

I used 1/8" nylon woven cord for the sides of the IX peapod and 1/8 streach cord for the ends with a lock cord stop at each end to be able to cinch the ends down in cold weather. The non streach works well as you mentioned for preventing sag (have adjustable suspension setup, can adjust from inside peapod). Can pull peapod forward or back on nonstreach lines.

Thanks Newzy, I have some 1/8 flat woven nylon cord that will be perfect.

I have been thinking along these same lines for a while. I was thinking of using some lashit for most of it (side - around the head connection - other side), and just use some shockcord on the foot end.
However, I think a better method would be to use Hangnout's method of using fabric triangles attached to the suspension ends to support the UQ. It would keep the tension where you would want it and pull it in the correct direction while also keeping the weight of shockcord down.
I had done something similar with my wife's hammock when it was really cold out and her quilt was sagging, but I used the shockcord suspension twisted around a piece of cardboard inside the bugnet pocket of a hammock bliss as a toggle to keep the suspension lines up. Hangnout's method is cleaner and will work for a lot more hammocks.

I too saw Hangout's triangles and was fascinated. Goes to show you, there's never an end to new ideas. I will probably get to those triangles eventually, after I figure out where the sweet spot is for the hook-up.

I've done this... sort of. It works just fine. I think you should consider switching the shock cord / non-stretch cord around though. Put the shock cord in the channels so that the stretchy part is where your quilt is - that helps it conform better as you move around - you don't need the stretch in the line up to the end of your hammock so use the non-stretch cord there.
