First Hammock was a Dollar Store Bridge.

Then I went to a Hennessy Expedition. From there the a WarBonnet BlackBird, then to a variety of hammocks from WildernessLogics, Butt in a Sling, Hammeck, Grand Trunk, Dutchware, Bill Townsend, and a few from QuickStarter offerings.

first-first was a random amazon $25 thing. Tribe Outdoors, i think. I never slept overnight in it. i bought a yukon outfitters bug net and some atlas straps along the way.

first overnight hammock: dutchware 12’, with a fronkey bugnet and a used superfly. wise owl underquilt. still a great setup.

current: SLD Trail Lair, double layer, bugnet. still use the superfly. HG 20° UQ, UGQ 20° TQ. solid setup! best camping sleep i’ve had.

First hammock was an ENO double nest bought in 1993. When I came across hammock camping, I tried camping in it with a pad and a sleeping bag. Decided I needed another hobby and went down the proverbial rabbit hole.

Today, I have ~15 hammocks in rotation. My most-used gathered end hammock is the Dutchware Chameleon and bridge is the Warbonnet Ridgerunner. I made one DIY camping hammock and decided I am happy to pay our cottage vendors to make my hammocks.

I started with a Hammock Bliss o-see-um no more and currently hanging in whatever Dream Hammock happens to be laying around the workshop at any given time.

Eno Doublenest and bought the pro fly XL and bugnet- realized it was short for me...

NOW I have saved up and bought 11' Superior Gear 30 degree and Tarp thinking I could make do with the synthetic sleeping bags I have.....Whelp, I now have their 30 degree comforter on order and may order their 'Cocoon' if they ever have a 40% off sale. (Um, yeah. Not holding my breath for that fer sure.)

I submit this is not a hobby. It's an addiction.

The lesson here for those looking for the "best" hammock, might be represented by words someone once whispered in my ear in my long ago youth, "You may not be my first, but you might be my next."

I started with a home made table cloth hammock inspired by the great, honorable, hammock pioneer Ed Speer in his book "Hammock Camping". Thousands of dollars of hammock gear later (not really but seems like it) and 17 yrs later I now have a Superior Hammock. Wait a min... whats this about a zippered in UQ? It never ends..
