I would like to invite anybody willing to travel to Mengerschied in the Mid-West of Germany, near the German-French border, to our Summer Hang 2018!
The Hängemattenforum (German Hammock Forums) has been having a summer hang every year since 2015, so I guess you can say it's already a tradition. We are meeting at a private site deep in the forests of the Hunsrück (well, as deep in the forests as you can be in a heavily populated country like Germany) that has not only access to plenty of trees for hanging hammocks, but also basic sanitary facilities (2 toilets and running water), a three-walled shelter with tables and benches for when the weather is not that great, as well as a roofed fire-place. As last year, we will also be having scaffolding on the lawn to show off and try out all kinds of hammock gear.
The hang will start on Friday, May 18th and finish on Monday, May 21st. There is a very reasonable fee of 8€ per person and day, which covers our expenses for the site, fire wood, trash bags, toilet paper, the scaffolding and last but not least a couple of communal meals. So far we have a pancake breakfast planned, a Gulasch dinner (meat for ominvores, potatoe for vegetarians), a couscous dinner, pulled pork burgers, cake and we are still accepting volunteers who prepare a food of their choice.
If you are interested in joining the hang, you can either sign up at the German Hammock Forums, or contact me if you don’t understand / speak German. You don’t need to speak German to attend (although it helps) - most of us speak another language.
Since you need to pay the participation fee in advance, please don’t wait until the hang has started. The organizers will be on site a day early for preparations, and internet / phone reception is very bad in the woods.
In case you’re wondering if it’s worth it, check out reports and pictures of previous group hangs in Mengerschied:

I almost forgot: you are allowed to tent on the lawn if you really want to. But if it's just a matter of not (yet) owning a hammock set-up, we can help you with that. Just let us know as early as possible.
