    Light weight hammock chair questions

The commercial hammock chairs seem to be very strong and not light, one even has a double layer and weighs near a pound. A non-hanging buddy wants something like one, for comfortable sitting in camp.

Will this work: A yard of hammock fabric (36" x 60" or wider) knotted on the long ends, with 10' of half inch mule tape (lark's head) attached below the fabric knot on each end. I have spare tree straps to loan to him.

I'm using an AHE Bushman Hammock Chair for a few years and looking at my LighterPack gear closet, it weighs in at exactly 5 oz complete... The hammock chair with CL's and Loop Aliens at its' ends and a stuff sack is 3.4oz, Kevlar straps are 1.2oz and an Amsteel leader is 0.4oz. How are you getting to a pound?

Pretty sure it's wider than 36".
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I bought a helinox chair one from Cabelas for a decent price. I also have a hammock chair, but preferred a light weight camp chair for lounging by the camp fire. My chair weighs about 2 lbs in the nylon bag.

Watching this thread. I also want to know how much fabric is needed to be comfortable.
The essential part of me can not be discussed here. Ask me in person.

I've been thinking about doing a DIY "hammock chair" because I think I could make one lighter than what I'm carrying.

I've used the Alite monarch Butterfly which at 1 lb 4.8 oz is pretty lightweight. The disadvantage is you have to balance on the chair. Once you get used to it it isn't so bad but I'm currently using the REI Flexlite which is 1 lb 10 oz. This is my one luxury item. I hate those extra ounces but it's really nice to be able to place it anywhere and it makes cooking and reading much more comfortable.

I would have bought the Helinox Chair Zero (one lb), but max capacity only goes up to 260 lbs. The Chair One (2 lbs) can support up to 320 lbs, but I am well below that.

I have a Helinox as well, love to sit in it but hate the extra weight. I have a hammock chair that is much lighter, but can’t really pull it up by the fire at night.

ncludes: 2 Whoopie Sling, and 2- 6-foot tree straps.
Weight: Hammock - 9.3 oz Suspension - 6.15 oz Total in the stuff sack 15.4 oz
    Just add 2 Suspension Carabiners
    AHE Kickback hammock chair

Again, can I just knot the ends of a yard width of hammock fabric (about 60+ inches in length), and use a lark's head knot to hitch some mule tape to both ends for a light weight chair? Not for reclining, not for sitting lengthwise in, just for sitting crosswise similar to folding the fabric double to sit crosswise in a real hammock.

I only take the Chair one when I car camp. When I backpack for significant mileage, I leave the chair at home, as my hammock doubles as chair. My wife, however is a tenter, so she brings her chair zero, and Big Agnes Tiger Wall 2p tent (really a 1.5p).
