    Dutch Clip Question

I think Dutch Clips were one of the first pieces of bling I ever bought from Dutch. (And here we are two Chameleons and lotsa bling later...) However, I do have a question about using Dutch Clips and maybe someone out there will put my mind at ease.

I notice when I run the webbing around the tree and back through the Dutch Clip, it folds and kinda rolls over on itself. This happens due the shape of the clip. Is this compromising the strength, integrity, or longevity of the webbing? I'm using the Dyneema/polypro webbing with Beetles. I try to get the webbing that runs to the hammock to come off the side of the tree as straight as possible as per Dutch's video. (Seems like once I get in the hammock it moves some. But I do try and use it as per recommendation.)

Here are some pics to show what I'm talking about. If it's not an issue I won't worry about it. Thanks!

Mine looks the same way. The dyneema /polypro straps are a softer material then the polyester straps is my only answer as to why.

I'm hanging right now, and my old polyester straps do the same thing. I have wondered about this too though.

No worries! It is fine like you have it.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

Maybe these will satisfy your concerns. And they double as toggles and more:

I have the Multibuckles, and while I like them in all the other configs, I don’t especially like them as tree strap clips. The webbing still seems to fold a little when loaded at an angle, which makes me a little nervous about even that small opening.

    Might just be me, though.

Next best thing would be some nice carabiners then. You can find some about 3/4-1 oz each.

    Great minds think alike!

I remember when I was using the black poly webbing that originally came with my Ridgerunner and it looking exactly like what you're showing.

I've also used carabiners. Climbing rated. Due to their larger size compared to Dutch Clips they don't fold the straps over as much. And you're right, they work good too. Just looking at trying to reduce size and lighten up a bit.

I'm trying to find out as well if there's any weakening associated with the strap folding due to the clip shape.

I've also got some old-school aluminum Dutch clips that don't scrunch up the strap. I like these (plus they are cheaper than titanium clips), and I think you can still get them from JRB, or email Dutchware and I think they can hook you up.
