    Skeeters

A few summers back, prior to taking a break from hiking/camping, I used a sleeping pad. It wasn’t so much for warmth as it was because I was paranoid mosquitos would eat me alive through the hammock (was in the “Deep South”).

For winter months, I prefer an under quilt. But for summer months I was thinking I may continue to use the pad, in which case I was going to get a double-layered hammock so I could slide the pad in between the layers (HATED trying to keep it in place in a gathered-end hammock...OMG what a PITA that is).

Honestly though, I don’t really need a pad at all in the dead of summer, so was kinda wanting to go with a single-layered hammock and no pad or under quilt, but will only do that if mosquitoes cannot bite me through the hammock. Anyone know if they can?

If they can, what are others doing to combat that? Do you treat the hammock with something? And if so, with what and how often does it need to be done?

I have had skeeters in Florida bite me thru denim Levi's and I overheard two of them discussing whether they wanted to eat in or take out.I lived to tell the tale! Some of u s use permethrin on the hammocks and there are threads on this forum describing the process in great detail.I have soaked hammocks in the past but now that I take ACV and B vitamins, they don't like me anymore.

Apart from Permethrin, you could either use a zippered bug sock or add an underquilt protector. I bet 2QZQ would make you one out of bug netting if you asked.

I think it means apple cider vinegar and I don't think I would be soaking my hammock in something acidic.

Yeah, an armored combat vehicle will keep the skeeters at bay. Ha ha ha

Did someone recommend you soak your hammock in vinegar?I soaked mine in permethrin before but dont feel the need to do that again now that the bugs dont like me anymore.
