Tyroler- I noticed that you are listed as living in Waldorf. My mother lived there until recently. She lived in MD for almost 30yrs. We used to live in Lexington Park and I loved stomping around the woods up there when I was younger (30 years ago). Also, we have black flies and horse flies here but nothing as bad as the Maine black flies from what I have heard insofar as the density of them.

Esmith-You make a good point. There is a lot of diversity on this thread. I'm surprised to hear that you have the dreaded no-see-ums all the way up in canada. I always thought that they were a southern thing.

Hey Mouse...Yeah I've been in Waldorf since 2002. It's a good central location in the Mid Atlantic states. I've been as far south as Miami, but never left the airport en route to St. Maarten. Been to Orlando a few times to visit the Mouse (Mickey) with the family. It's like a 14 hour drive. The skeeters sure are large down there. That is why all the homes with pools in Florida have the obligatory Lanai attached to keep away skeeters, snakes and gators.

+1 on the UQ protector. Works well for me in summer months although I do treat both hammock and UQ protector with Permethrin.
