I hope you get a lot of suggestions. I live in N. Ga. and travel south a bit and am always wondering about a place to safely and cheaply hang overnight. I personally know of nothing except the odd state park miles off the big road.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

I'm further south than old4hats, and fairly close to I-75, but still just north of Atlanta. Surrounded by suburbs, but we've got a few acres of trees out back, with a little creek and some decent spots to hang if you don't mind the sound of ducks and chickens nearby (and lots of frogs and crickets). Probably not as far south as you'd like, but if you can't find better let me know and I'll check with my wife.

I greatly appreciate the offer but I have to get to at least south GA. We are headed to Kissimmee and I have to split the trip up for the wife to be able to stand it!!!

Best I can suggest is to Google campgrounds in South Ga around I75 and then contact them to see if they have hammock camping. Surely someone does. We bikepacked up to Albany last weekend and they had tent camping but nothing really set up for hammocks, besides we were a long way from 75. Good luck.

I've hung at the group area of Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park. It's not real far off 75. The ranger I talked to seemed surprised I even asked if hammocks were OK. COE on Eufaula at the state line is a bit out of the way. I'm across the state with nowhere to hang so no help. Florida state forests may have camping. Ocala Forest has camping but by then just go on south to see Mickey.
