Made in the USA, bought from Canada

I'm wondering if any Canadian resident has experience in receiving hammocks, etc. purchased from the USA, made in the USA (i.e. Warbonnet, Dutchware) when it comes to duties. Under NAFTA (while we still have it), items made in the USA are supposed to be duty free (one still has to pay GST). Can anyone advise on their experience?

I've ordered from both Warbonnet and dutch twice each. Dutch orders were bling but no bulk, came in an envelope, no duty at all either order.

For my larger warbonned orders, there was duty owed both times. (I'm in Edmonton, alberta.)

First time was a blackbird, wooki and superfly. that cost me $40cdn at the door. Second order was 2 xlc'x, 2 wooki's, 2 superflys and a minifly and the duty at my door was about $160cdn.

You need a credit card at the door. They don't do debit or cash.

    hope that helps.

    It’s a crap shoot.
Insist on having it shipped usps. Never ups or fedex. They will ding you there fees plus the tax regardless of price.

USPS/ Canada post :At the border they are supposed to charge you the taxes on gear over $100 plus a 10$ processing fee.

USA has it better coming from Canada. They have 700/800$ before paying taxes.

USPS is a hit or miss! I ordered from Dutch on two occasions. Orders were around 85$ Each. Paid duties on one order. Both were shipped USPS.

Second for insisting on USPS, otherwise you also get dinged with the brokerage from the delivery service, I have only ever paid the HST on stuff coming from the states.

No crap shoot for me. I get nailed with Duty and Taxes everytime I've ordered. Once through Dutch and multiple times through Warbonnet and others.

Historically I've only ever paid taxes on one tarp years ago. Everything else I've ever ordered from the US that came via USPS/Canada Post have never been taxed. One package that came via UPS came with ridiculous brokerage fees. Brandon from WB years ago valued my package at half in case of taxes but I didn't have to pay any. Keep in mind that I have not ordered much form the States in years so it might be different now.
