    Dyeing dyneema/polypro straps

I've been Googling a bit to find out whether I could dye my Dutchwaregear dyneema/polypro straps, and the info I'm finding indicates that dyneema generally doesn't take dye.

Has anyone tried it? I'm moving toward low-viz gear, and the bright white straps (while awesomely light and perfectly suited to my Beetles) stand out profoundly.

I'm aware that Dutch has polyester straps in camo, and I might go that route if I can't dye these.

I concur, dye will not stick.
Just get black dyneema Venom straps from RipstopByTheRoll

    Dyeing dyneema/polypro straps

Ohh, I didn't even know that was an option. I was emailing Jared about other stuff this morning. He's answering emails on Easter Sunday. There's some service.

Another option for light colored straps that I have on one set of my Kevlar 3.3 straps is to use Krylon Ultra Flat Camouflage Fusion spray paint. Adheres well to plastics including straps but makes the strap harder and much stiffer and adds a little weight. Rust-Oleum Camouflage Ultra Cover 2x is flat and also adheres to plastics well and comes in more flat camo colors. If the Kevlar webbing came in camo or a dark color, that would be my preference. But it doesn't.

Here's the trouble with both the Venom strap idea and the paint idea: I'm using Beetle Buckles. If I understand correctly, Dutch added polypropylene to the dyneema specifically because the dyneema is too slippery for buckles. The product info on the Venom straps advises against the use of buckles. And painting... I imagine I'd run into trouble with the buckles there, too.

I think I'll just have to get some polyester straps in olive or camo if I want to be stealthy.

Could you try getting them dirty? Grass stains, walnuts, charcoal, etc.

Also, I haven't seen this webbing in person, but at the distance where camo is effective at concealing your hammock and tarp, you may not need to be worrying a whole lot about the white in those straps. Not sure about this. Have you looked at it from a distance?

Getting them dirty is probably a good way to go. I've thought about using a Sharpie. No, I haven't taken a look from a distance, but I justify bright orange/reflective tarp guy lines for the same reason; more than 20-30 feet away and sitting on the ground, they shouldn't be noticable. I figured since the tree straps are wider and higher up, they'd be more visible... but I could be wrong about that.

I don't recommend that. I did it on dyneema straps, and the Sharpie colors your fingers every time you use the straps. Not a good idea.

I just dyed a 200 ft section of silver amsteel with black (graphite) Rit DyeMore for synthetic materials. I might be wrong, but I am I think both amsteel and dyneema are made of the same material. In any case, they’re both UHMWPE. It’s only been a week, and I haven’t really put it through it’s paces, but dye doesn’t seem to rub off on my hands.
