That is a sweet looking creation, Cowboy. I'd been waiting on someone to attempt the thunderfly/minifly diy and was hoping it would be you, as your writeups are superior.

The porch mode looks incredible and if you can put it through the paces up in the PNW, it will be probably be suitable for most any climate.

Thanks for another creative production and the generous sharing of the schematics.

    Really digging that porch mode.

Thank you very much, C; I think it's a concept I will enjoy exploring and refining all year round.

More to come in the future with this style of tarp...

Completed my take on a Badlander tarp, following Kitsapcowboy's template... 12' ridgeline, dual internal pole mod compatible, Xenon Sil 5300 in dark olive with HyperD 300 reinforcements to match. 18.0 oz with snake skin and stuff sack.

    Porch mode is indeed excellent.

What I came up with to manage the doors. Just an s-biner, a lineloc 3 and a couple inches of ½" polyester webbing. Was originally envisioning running a line around the tree and to the lineloc but ended up just staking out to the ground.

Sorry to hear it! We’ll have to plan another excursion when you’re back in paddling shape.

Great Job Kitsap Cowboy. If you make tarps for other HF members, I would order one from you. Jack Sparrow's take on the Badlander also looks awesome.

That's some great looking kit, jcksparrow!

I plan on making the exact same setup next, out of silpoly pu4000. Any lessons learned in the build process that you'd care to share?

Sure thing. You can get by with a minimum of 8 yards of fabric, if you're meticulous with your layout and cutting. I also opted to do a flat-felled ridgeline, and I stitched in 8" lengths of 3/8" grosgrain ribbon onto the standing seam (inset about 4' from the ends) before stitching it down flat, so I could tie my poles into place easily.

Cool Coming Soon... Badlander 1.1: The Baddening

I requested the pre-printed pattern protoype of the Badlander Version 1.1, a slightly refined version of this tarp, using Dutch's Xenon 1.1 oz waterproof fabric in a Print2Fabric pattern with the cutting lines marked right on the fabric. This shaved over an hour of my last Cat Tangle tarp build, so I'm excited to see how this sharpened-up and dialed-in half-door hex will turn out in a couple of weeks. If all goes well, you'll be able to special order similarly pre-printed DIY tarp fabric emblazoned with this pattern and make one yourself as an easy project. There will be a companion DIY construction article with all the steps, tips, and tricks on the Dutchware Gear website in the Articles section once I complete my build and take photographs.

    Here's a sneak peak...
