    Top quilt

    Hi,

I dont have any experience of top quilts.

I have a question about the lenght of a quilt. I am 175cm long and found a quilt that is 171 cm long. Do you guys think that lenght could work for me?

    Regards, Patrik

    You are not flat.

Your quilt has to travel up over your feet, over your body, and down over at least your shoulders with a little room for you to move in order for you to stay warm; you do not want to pull the quilt off of your shoulders every time you point your toes inside your quilt footbox,

Therefore, typically I recommend a top quilt with a length that is the user's height plus 10 to 15 cm (4-6").

I would never recommend a top quilt with a nominal length shorter than the user. My $0.02. YMMV. HYOH. HTH.

I've never heard this rule of thumb, exactly, but it makes sense. I'm 6'2" and I've been coveting an 80" LLG TQ for a while. That quilt is 15.24cm longer than I am tall, for those not in the US or Liberia.

So... look for a TQ around 190cm, give or take.

I am also 6'2" (and also quite "flat"); all of my LLG top quilts are 80" long -- perfect for me.

When a quilt is below 77" (still 3" longer than my height) I start to experience problems with it.

With the number of top quilts I have now DIY'd, I wish I could use a quilt 72" or less; I would have saved a fortune on fabric and insulation by buying only two yards instead of three for every shell and layer of Climashield... As it is, at least all of my quilts fit me well, and I have plenty of pillows and stuff sacks from all the scraps.

I pulled the trigger this morning on a used 80" Ghost Pepper that @peppy put up for sale. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Another consideration, for cold weather, go longer so you can stuff things in your footbox to keep them warm and/or so you can cover your head in a pinch. For summer, you might consider shorter for the weight savings and/or if you tend to vent your quilt a lot anyways.

One more point, if you’re a stomach sleeper, your feet are gonna point down and make your “footprint” longer.

Once more, snap and draw footboxes shortens the quilt when cinched up.

    Thanks for all the input!

The quilt in question has this feature.
"The bottom of the topquilt is bent and extended upwards ("shark fin" construction) to provide more space for your feet."

So, maby it should work good for me to take the shorter quilt as I also dont intend to use it in the winter.

But with your input in mind I think I will go with the longer one...as the shorter version is made custom I cant order and try them out.

I like to pull the top quilt over my head in cold weather. So longer than you are tall in my opinion
