    Line management

Hi all. I couldn’t find any posts about this. So sorry if I’m just Forum illiterate. But any ways I’m kind of a clumsy guy and get my continuous ridgeline tangled up a lot. So I bought a few of these and so far it makes my system much cleaner and easier to work with. Not field tested yet

Another option is the figure-8 method, shown here:

I use it a lot - it's quick and easy and rarely causes tangles.

Lol, I just ordered one of these about an hour ago! I can't stand tangled CRL'S. It takes so long to untangle them. Do you guys think moving up to the 2.2mm zing it would also make it easier to untangle? How about shortening it to 25 feet? Would that extra 5 feet ever be missed in the real world all that often?

    +1 for quick-deploy figure-8 hanks.

A little bit of knowledge beats hardware dependence. It's faster and makes you look smart too.

Thanks, I will try the figure 8 thing. I also like to look smart. Ha

HandyRandy I sure don’t know if a thicker line would work better(not enough experience) length probably depends on where you go. I had to add line on my trip in February( our trees are big in diameter around hear) my ridge line is 25’ and had to add about 5’

Ieiavoia I agree knowledge is way better and I tried a version of the figure 8 my last trip but my hands were so cold my fingers did not want to work well. It was hard enough getting the tarp pack in its bag after it was in the tarp sleeve. P.S. I gave up on looking smart along time ago. It’s not a look I can pull off very well.

I make what I call an accordion wrap——zig zagged back and forth in one hand. When almost done I make circular wraps around accordion and finish with a slipped half hitch.
When unwrapping—-sometimes I remember to smooth especially coiled part and some smooth rest of cord to remove coils and kinks—-and sometimes I don’t.
Sometimes unintended knots sneak up when least noticed.....

Tinfoil, I get vendors to make stuff sacks about time and a half larger than size they ordinarily make——now tarps and hammocks are easy to pack.

Figure 8 is also perfect for 50' bear bag line. Start the wrap at the anchor end to make life easy (well, easier) when deploying.
