Any problem with leaving a cuben tarp up semi-permanently?

I like to experiment in my back yard, and an HG tarp with doors is my preferred tarp. I have a Noah 9 that also works for me.

I've left the cuben tarp up for about a month already, and it just occurred to me that I might be aging it prematurely. It's a shaded spot but it does get some sun. Should I keep the Noah 9 out there to protect my big investment?

I can't comment on how it handles that kind of stress, but I do recommend 303 Aerospace protectant for anything that will be exposed to that much constant UV. Stuff seems pretty good. I use it on my car instead of Armor-All.

You shouldn't leave your cuben fiber tarp out like that - it will delaminate.

I wouldn't leave any tarp out for a month. It takes five or ten minutes max to set up a tarp.

I'll switch to the Noah 9. They're always on sale for $30, so they're almost disposable.

It takes two minutes in the daytime, but it's much more of a pain at night or with wind. I get home from work at 11pm and choose whether to hammock. If the tarp isn't already up, I'll almost always choose not to.

Mine stays deployed weeks at a time. See my signature for consecutive days.

It's deployed under a covered deck though.

Its like a ship's sail....i have not had any issues.

I bought it used as well.

UV exposure will significantly weaken almost all material over time and cuben fiber/ dyneema is no exception. Up to you if it's worth leaving it up for an extended period of time or not I suppose.

If I were leaving a tarp up for an extended period of time in my back yard I'd go to Walmart and get an inexpensive blue tarp to test with not my tarps that cost 30X as much. What's the point?

I don’t have a Dynema tarp, but I pretty much agree with all of the above. The entire point of Dynema isn’t its longevity or price, it’s purely weight. Why risk it.

I'm not an expert on how consistent UV effects Cuben but I would have to guess it's not good. I wouldn't risking on a $300-$400 tarp. Put up your cheap on and have no worries.

I think UV damage would be the issue. Agree that a less expensive option is a better idea.
