Would a single layer 1.7 Robic feel close to the same as a double layer Hexon 1.6?

Hey everyone. I have a double layer Hexon 1.6 SLD Trail Lair Hammock and I really like it. It's low stretch and just works well for me and it's very comfortable. However it's pretty heavy. I have a single layer Hexon 1.6 Dutchware Half Zipped as well and it's nice but too stretchy for my taste.

So, I was wondering if I got a single layer Robic 1.7 hammock would it have a similar feel to my double layer Trail Lair stretch wise and support wise? From specs the Robic is a stronger fabric than Hexon.

    Thank you.

Hmmm I've wondered this too. Also how Robic compares to Hexon.

Hopefully we will get some people with experience with both fabrics chiming in.

In my experience, not at all. A DL of Hexon 1.6 would be way less stretchy and more firm. But, a single layer of 1.7 robic is more firm than Hexon 1.6.

A SL of Robic 1.7 is a lot more firm than any of the 1.6 fabrics!

Thank you for the response. I have been kicking around buying a Robic Hammock for a while and I think I may pull the trigger on one soon.

Any experience with comfort, calf ridge difference between DL and Single layer in this regard? In a recent video, Shug commented that he seems to like he DL XLC more than SL, but did not detail. I’m trying to decide at 5’10” and 180#, which will be more comfortable...SL or DL at 11ft length in a 1.7 fabric.

Interesting subject; hard for me to imagine that there's that much difference? Would be interested in hearing your final report once you try the other fabric.

To me the biggest difference between 1.7 sl and 1.6 dl would be the feel the 1.7 is noticeably less slippery. I find the 1.7 to be Very firm and that's with me being 300# 6'4". I also finding the 1.7 gives a more pronounced calf ridge. I personally prefer a sl 1.6 hexon wide. Still enough support but a much softer lay. I haven't tried the 1.6 hexon in dl but have tried the 1.6 hyper D in dl. It did provide more support with a softer lay. Just my 2c.

I just ordered a single layer 66” Raven in robic 1.7. Had this same concern. Papa Smurf said that the SL robic is good for a firmer lay, but not as quite as firm as a DL HyperD.

As for calf ridge, I’m assuming the 66” width will take care of that. I’m replacing my 58” wide DL HyperD Sparrow which I couldn’t quite get comfortable in due to the width. I LOVE the feel of the HyperD, but going to a SL I want the extra firmness.
