I'd suggest you give Hutzelbein a shout. She is over in Germany, is very hammock savvy, and probably could be talked into some adventures...tell her I said so.

Hi and welcome from Charlotte, NC. I used to live in Dusseldorf and Ludwigshafen. Good luck on going down the hammock path. We all love going outside, and hammock camping has just made that whole experience even better. I remember when I first discovered hammock camping and all the excitement that comes along with it. It's a great community here, reach out with questions and I'm sure you'll have people lining up to offer help you with answers. Let us know how things are going.
Crayons - they might look different, but they all taste the same

Nice! So you know the general area I'm in, I'm from around Darmstadt. The Bergstraße is my playground
The biggest challenge right now certainly is to adapt the hammock camping style to my general gear list, It's certainly heavier than the rest of my gear.
Once I think I've figured out what i want I'm probably going to order some hexon from dutch and make another one to get a big lighter, Same goes for the tarp I'm making, it's going to be some 60g/m² silnylon for now, it's cheap and available.
I'm definitely a massive gearhead already, I'm all about ultralight for a couple years by now

Hello and welcome from Marietta GA. There's nothing quite as satisfying and making and using your own gear! Happy hanging!

Welcome from down at the beach in North Carolina.

Wouldn't happen to be a kayaker, would you?

Nope, haven't tried that yet, although it's definitely on my list.

So far I just walk or run trails

    Hello and welcome!

I am heading to Germany for a career change! First priority is finding where I can hang. I'll be up in the Braunfels area. Good luck with hammocking it's an addiction!

I think you'll have no problem finding spots up there, there's enough forest around
Also not really far from here.
