I had an Old Man which I will still use. I bought the hex to reduce my weight. It works great with my WBBB. Now, I am trying to get it to work with my WBRR. I definitely want to add a Grizz Beak for that. I have camo and love that it isn't see through.

I have both, 11' hex and 12' hex std with doors.

If I could have only one it'd be the 12' std with doors.

I actually meant to specify the 11' with doors when I ordered, but my 'mistake' turned out to be a good one... the extra length is appreciated in truly heinous weather because it protects the pack better (I hang it from the CL at the head of the hammock) and it gives a bit more room for using my hanging canister stove rig when I need to get out of the wind/rain, and when it's really cold it helps knock down the wind a good bit which, when combined with a hammock cover, adds quite a bit of warmth to the system.

For the vast majority of 3-season, however, the 11' hex is plenty for me. I've already used it in the rain a few times and the coverage is good enough IMO and it folds down really small (by Cuben standards ) without a snake skin.

Pic of the 11' hex from a few days ago... rained a bit (nothing dramatic) and it was totally fine in semi-porch mode.

I am also going through the same decision right now. 11' Hex, 12' hex or 11' with doors... I'm a bit torn.

What I've gathered through experience and forums so far....
    - 11' hex: coverage in everything but a strong storm with wind, and a cooler windy night with a bad pitch direction. Good for 98% of your nights on the trail, since you will likely not choose to go out in a storm for a weekend jaunt. Likely not what you'd take on a thru-hike though.

Side note: I've done it with less... the worst of which was a windy, stormy, rainy surprise a few years ago, in which 5 inches of rain dumped on my wife and I, when storms were not expected. We weathered this storm in hennessey Asym ultralite hammocks, with asym postage stamp tarps... so everything feels like a palace to me. I also recently ran into a weather forensics specialist, that is still trying to figure out how they weren't able to predict the storm.

    - 12' hex: same as above, but more coverage for 0.4 extra ounces, or the weight of a AA battery. Sintax77 seems to prefer this over the tarp with doors in a recent video.

    - 11' with doors: all-time coverage for 3 seasons. Adds 2.0 oz, or the weight of a tennis ball. If you already have a Superfly, like I do, then I wouldn't necessarily consider the palace. It looks like this tarp is great for thru-hikes, as well as pretty much 100% of what mother nature can throw at you in the spring, summer, and fall. A lot of people seem to like this tarp, though I see people selling them to get the camo version every once in a while.

I went through this same dilemma when I ordered during black friday sale. I have a DIY 12' Xenon Sil .9 with doors that weighs 18oz. I've been using this as my 4 season tarp, but I wanted something much lighter for the summer. I decided to go with a 12' HG Hex. I sewed 4 grosgrain loops into my rain kilt and am going to "mod" it to use as a door and will attach to the tarp with shock cord. Going to sew 3 grosgrain loops in my Frogs tog jacket and then use shock cord to attach to tarn D rings. That will definitely be enough protection from both sides in the summer.

There's also the Warbonnet Thunderfly at ~15oz and it packs down a lot smaller than the CF tarps do.

I pulled the trigger on the 11' standard with doors today. Got the dutchware bling, and will be doing the Adventure Alan door mod. Can't wait to hide it from my wife!

Too funny... Being a proud owner of the camo version, I figured out a way to slide my newly ordered camo thunderfly smoothly into the collection..
Wife..where did you get that camo tarp? Me, honey, I have always had a camo tarp... Like George Costanza says, it's not a lie if You believe it..
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..
