@ oneclick That makes sense. The fabric is quite firm. I sure can imagine that a bit more stretch would be a solution. So I should either work out a lot and build massive calves or gain weight, or get a different fabric hammock.
Feel free to send me some links to threads on the subject or let me know what the problem is usually refered to so I can do a proper search myself .
    Thanks for the input.

My diy skills go as far as making my own fancy feast alcohol stove. (really like that stove) and I fear it stops there.
I saw the thread on the Clew and already realised the benefit of that suspension.
Not sure if it would sufficient enough in filling "the gap "

If you have a backyard you can do a lot of experiments without loosing sleep on it.
I don't have a backyard so next time I go for a hang I will make sure I have plenty of time and daylight to try things.
But somehow I feel that Oneclick maybe right when pointing at the firmness of the hammock fabric.

I can attest that the clew suspension does work as advertised. It makes your quilt mimick the shape of your hammock similar to a wookie type. I just don't like dealing with all the extra little cords and difficulties putting it on different sized hammocks.

The clew looks like an interesting option although I don't look forward to the DIY part.
Also I hope to somehow manage to get rid of the gap.
Or is the gap there always for everybody?

Greg, I can attest to the effectiveness and ease of leiavoia’s clew system. If I did it anyone can. I made a Gemini UQ as my first diy project. You don’t have to make the quilts. You can add snaps to your UQ and use the clew suspension. I’m actually using it right now in my back yard. The wind woke me up.

Since you don’t have a back yard can you rig up a way to hang inside? StevE is right. Experimenting is time very well spent.

You didn’t mention the temps you were dealing with. I have an insulated inflatable camp pad from Klymit that easily takes me to 40* F and near freezing is doable. Tried it once in the mid 20s and froze my butt off. Just a suggestion if you can’t make your UQ work but I bet you can find a solution without buying more gear.

    Good luck!

Another thought as I lay here pre dawn: when I’m in cold weather I don’t use the side tie outs on my hammock. I find that this increases the taco effect of my UQ. Some people find it claustrophobic but I find that it really helps eleminate any gaps. Back to sleep now.

Thanks Screddog and everybody else for all the input sofar.

The clew inspires me to try a simple variation on that. Going to see if I can get around with a "snugpack uq style" suspension. Which means I will add two suspension cords.

My uq is the cumulus Silva 600. It's a bit oval shaped.
It's a 20* degree uq. I was using it in 24* temperature and was warm except for my (left mostly) legs. I didn't tie out the hammock indeed to have the uq wrapped around me.

I can't wait to go out again and see how I can improve it.

For cold weather I could always revert to my 90*hammocktent. Comfortwise it can't be beat anyway but I would have to give up on the breakfast from the hammock.
