I finally got to hit the trail with my hammock and do a overnighter on my local trail system. The Palmetto Trail runs from the coast to the upstate of South Carolina. My trip took place on the Lake Moultrie Passage, which is about 24 miles total if done whole, but I didn't have that kinda time to play. I picked a place where I could park and hike to the nearest primitive camp. I parked at the Hwy 45 bridge at one of the Canal Wildlife Management Area parking lots and hiked about 5.5 miles to the camp at North Dike WMA. Most of the trail was atop a earthen dike which skirts along the northern part of Lake Moultrie. Got a late start around 4:30pm on a Wednesday, and got to camp around 7pm - had to set up in the dark. Only camper at the site, which I was happy about, since I wanted some alone time. After setup and meal, I got to settle into the Dream Hammock Raven around 9pm. Got up at the crack of dawn to enjoy the morning woods and fix some breakfast...then lollygagged around the camp, finally hitting the trail to head back around 9am. Took my time getting back to the car - stopping to enjoy a shade tree that was along the Rediversion Canal. Finally got to car around 12:30pm. This was my first trip out with the hammock and got to try out a slew of new gear that I have been piecing-together!
