    Dutchware Mantis

Good day all, I was wondering if any body has tried to use a dutchware mantis as a toogle and suspension hook with a marlin spike hitch? it looks to me like it would work fairly well but im not sure about the whole "around the knot not on the knot" thing with a marlin hitch. and if it doesn't work with a marlin spike is there another knot that would work?

It seems that it will work.

The only potential issue I see with this is if/when the msh slips off center. Still, it probably won't dump you. What might be cool is a msh specific version with a much narrower slot.

That's pretty slick! I have been using the MSH with a biner as a toggle for a while. Seems to work good. Only issue I see with the Mantis is it looks like one of those holes is fixed so I couldn't just throw the whoopie on there. Right?

If you're buying dutch bling for a whoopie sling suspension, why not a whoopie hook and eliminate the MSH altogether?

The only issue I see is if the pull becomes assymetric and the toggle slips to one side. Wedging the strap to one side could put it in a position where it could shred a bit depending on which straps you are using just like can happen with an incompatible strap with cinch buckles et al or a cinch buckle not put together on a continuous loop properly.

could the strap slipping not happen if you are using a daisy chain also or is it mainly because of the knot narrows the webbing?

If you take care to tighten the hitch before you get it, it doesn't seem to slip to the sides at all. The one time I had it slip while testing was from not tightening the NSH It still holds you if it slips to the side.

If I made sure to tighten the MSH before getting into the hammock, I had no issues with the sliding. Didn't seem to move over a few nights. Not saying it won't, but even if it does it still holds. The inner edges of the mantis seem chamfered enough to not shred the webbing.

The daisy chain webbing doesn't bunch up while in use as you aren't tying a knot to attach the mantis.
