    sewn or snap foot box?

Looking at getting a 20° topquilt but not sure which foot box to get. Which do you prefer snapped or sewn and why?

I went with snap for my first TQ. To me it seems more versatile. I can unsnap and use as a blanket in warmer weather, or snap together and pull the drawstring in colder weather. I’ve never had a sewn TQ though.

If you are an active sleeper, you’ll just keep popping the snaps undone every night like I do. I’m considering selling my Burrow because of this. And I don’t think I’ll ever have a need to use it in open mode anyway. If it’s that hot, I don’t feel much difference between a snap TQ opened up vs a sewn shut TQ laying on top with my legs outside the footbox. In fact, I might still give a slight edge to the sewn shut TQ for that use too. But when it comes to feet on the inside, the sewn shut TQ feels waaaay better!

If the 20° topquilt is the only quilt you have, then you'll likely be using it in much warmer weather so it might be useful to be able to open it completely.

If you have another quilt for warmer weather, then you'll probably always use the 20° closed up so why bother having the snaps.

I haven't had the need to unsnap my 20° topquilt yet.

I've got sewn footboxes, and wish I could pop it open sometimes. that being said, I really like the complete lack of drafts in the sewn footbox when it's cold

+1 20* Sewn to insure Warmth. 30* and higher, snaps to allow versatility to vent in warmer temps. Plus, if you don’t need the warmth of the footbox of the 20*on those rare occasions it warms up for that one night you didn’t plan for, you can always slide one or both feet out of the sewn foot box.

+1 for popping the snaps open while sleeping. That's why I sewed mine shut.

I was going to sew for simplicity but I was curious about pushing my toes through the snaps. Thanks.

I like the idea of being able to unsnap my quilts and use them as a blanket. The truth is I've never done it though. Also the sewn footbox would be better at blocking drafts I suppose.
