I am taking a wild guess, most people getting to island by kayak?
I would like to try and be there, leaving Louisville, Ky probably around 3:30pm.

Neo's correct about a gate closing, BUT there are several other access points, most 24 hours.

I go to the island from a launch off New Hope road probably on the other side from where you guys are talking about. There is no gate and it's a straight shot to the island. The picture from my avatar is actually from when my son and I went there. There's a great site straight from that launch point. Just lots of wildlife too... I also have only gone to that one place the 2 times I went.

***Cook Public Use Area is where I've put in from.
