    MA > Central Massachusetts > July 6-8, 2018 - Newbie Women's Hang interest thread

We would like to gauge interest for a hang for women who are new to hammock camping but would like to learn more. Several experienced hammock campers will be at this hang to help with setup, answer questions and troubleshoot. If you don't have equipment, we may have some that you can borrow.

Depending on the response, we may also have space for folks who are not so new but want to attend an all-women's hang.

The hang will be July 6-8 in Central Mass. We're still finalizing the campground but are considering either Barton's Cove Campground in Gill (map) or the Federated Women's Club State Forest in Petersham (map). We will be car camping or sites will be only a short walk from parking.

This is a joint hang with Women Outdoors.

We're hoping to keep the base cost at or below $20 per person for the weekend (this will cover the rental fee for the campsite).

If you're interested, let us know. No need to commit right now. We just want to know whether we should move forward with planning.

    Thanks,
Chelsea (CountryRoads), Deb (from Women Outdoors), Isabel (Fizzbee), Laura (ljane), Lisa (from Women Outdoors), Megan (sunshower), Melanie (lilprincess) and Stacy (tollermama)

Yes at Barton's Cove, "leashed at all times." I have a message in to Women's Federated, but the related Erving State Forest allows them (leashed, not left alone, etc.) so I'd guess they're also okay at WF.

I am interested. Coming from New Jersey. I hang with at least 4 others ladies. Is it ok if we are not newbies? Amy is awesome with her cast iron cooking skills.

I would say probably yes, especially if you're willing to take a newbie under your wing to make sure she has an awesome time! In our initial discussions on this we decided we wanted to try to accommodate any woman who wants to come, but we need to give newbies precedence. Otherwise it sorta defeats the purpose of having a hang for them That said, if we have that many people who want to go, we can always look for a larger space, since we're not yet committed to a location.

I suspect we'll have a better sense in the next several weeks, and for sure by the end of March.
