    Tree straps

Ok I am wanting to make some to some tree straps to use on my SBPro. I am currently using rings and straps. I have noticed a difference in the way I hang using the rings and straps. I used to use the rope suspension that came with was able to get a more comfortable hang.

So my plan now is to make the tree straps so I can use the original suspension. Although I have never seen tree damage while using the rope suspension, I want to start to use tree straps. What is the normal length that people use for tree straps like when using Whoopie Slings an such? i have some mule tape that Fin sent me so I have plenty of strap to make them I just need to get an idea of how long to make them and what size loops to sew on the ends.

Many people seem to use straps in the 6' range. Adjust that if you typically hang from much larger trees, of course.

The loops need only be big enough to loop the webbing back through if/when you don't use a biner or DC. A 2" loop is about right IMO.

Six feet will be sufficient for any tree you can comfortably reach around.

Thanks AS. I am want to do this since I modified my SBPro to a Dbl Layer it is a little heavier and with approximatly 14 ft of webbing on each side and the rings it is alot heavier than I want it to be. I know the rope susnpension is lighter, so if I make these straps it should cut the weight of my setup drastically.

It will reduce the bulk a surprising amount, also.

My 6 foot straps have worked on the trees I've encountered in western KY and MO. I put 3 inch loops on them (3" as measured with loop laying flat) but you could get by with 2" loops easy enough. 1" wide polypropylene is my strap of choice as it is light and doesn't stretch like nylon.

I carry tree huggers in two different lengths, 5' and 6'. I have never ran into a situation where I am setting up between 2 trees that require 6' straps. Sometimes one end of the hammock may be anchored to a fairly large tree that might require most of the 6' length, but never both trees. I bet you may even get by with a 4'-4.5' strap and a 6' strap.

Now that's smart! I'm going to start doing that. Good call HC4U.

the loops just need to be big enough to insert one end through the other, (so not very big)
