That was the reason I got the pad as well. I think I will end up using 3 or 4 sections for a sit pad/ insulation in my camp chair and the using the rest to cut a torso length pad for taking on hikes when I may be forced go to ground.

Either the z-lite or ridge rest will work. It sort of depends on what you plan on doing with it when it isn't in the hammock. That is, the z-lite folds smaller up for storage, but the ridge rest makes a better seat and pack liner. Then again, it is very doable to use extraneous clothing for insulation too, e.g. camp jacket. Then again, I have not used one of the thinner specialty pads because the TR pads are cheaper and easily obtainable at thrift stores and second hand gear stores.
Do a google search for z lite irregular. You can get one for $10-$15 less that have a slight blemish. Perfect for cutting up!
