The MF and TF don't require anything to tie the doors back other than the included Micro biners. What you see in this picture is the doors folded back and clipped to eachother with the micro biner, this is secure and will stay put like this even in wind, mostly due to the shape of the doors.
I am reading this as they are secure in that they will stick together and wont shut...but not secure against flapping around a bit in a wind. To me secure also equals taught and free from wind movement/flapping. I dig the design and might have to pick one to test drive.

“The word hammockable (Meaning: two trees that are the perfect distance apart between which a hammock can be hung) is not in the dictionary, but it should be.”
I don't think there is any way to prevent all flapping in wind of doors that are pinned back to the outside of a tarp. You could tighten them up by stretching shockcord or guyline between one pair of doors and the other but if the wind is getting under them they would still flap a little. Although in anything beyond light wind most people would have them pitched out

Very helpful review, Shug! I think I'm sold on the minifly. Not much more $ than making my own, either.
When you talk about the ridge line length, are you actually running a line under the tarp or just securing the ends to the tree? Guessing the latter on that small tarp, but just in case.
p.s. like that binder clip idea!
Glad the looky-see helped.
I always just go off of the d-rings on the end and never run a line under the tarp.
