I have six Dutch hookworms/lines on the way, thinking that was plenty, but could always order more if I went with a SF.

Those pictures are really helpful - much appreciated. I think I need to set up my HH hex and figure how close it is to each of the possible new models and how comfortable I'd be with their coverage.

No, I do not think I am missing out with the lower width of the Thunderfly, but of course my answer is a matter of preference. I come from a bit of a minimalist perspective, and that is important to keep in mind as you read the rest of this post. To give you perspective, my first winter setup was the Warbonnet Edge with a Warbonnet winter sock, and found this be quite adequate.

The wider body of the Superfly means more coverage/privacy, but also means more material. More material means more weight, and slightly more setup time in achieving and maintaining a tight pitch. The need to use pullouts is more relevant on the Superfly than on the Thunderfly, which again leads to more weight/ setup time. If more coverage is your primary motivation, then go with the Superfly. If, on the other hand, you prefer a really taught pitch and simple setup (as I do), the Thunderfly is the obvious choice. I do really need to emphasize that the choice between the two tarps is preference.

No matter your choice, both tarps are great piece of gear, and the Superfly has inconic status for a reason. I have met a number of Hammock Campers who prefer the coverage level of a winter or 4 seasons tarp, and the Superfly achieves this nearly perfectly. You will not make an error no matter which you choose, but as mentioned in another post, I am a strong advocate of the SilPoly as opposed to the SilNylon versions of either of these tarps.

Last trip I had 50mph wind and rain turning to sleet.

Next week I'm looking at a forecast of 55-60° highs and possibly no precip.

That's exactly why I feel like I need both. Well, not NEED, but it certainly is nice choosing one to fit the weather.

    Minifly or Thunderfly?

first world problems haha. I'm in the same boat. I like both, I want both, but I'll only allow myself to get one I'm leaning thunderfly, but if there's a sale at warbonnet for just the mini I think I'd be just as happy with the mini. I've camped for the past 3 years with a tadpole tarp - nearly identical to the warbonnet edge - and I haven't had any issues with coverage yet. I've been worried a couple times, but I've never been wet

At that point I would go with the Superfly. Personally, a Thunder/Mini + Superfly is a perfect combo.

It's just great to have these options!

Agreed. MF is a SF with smaller doors, right? I'd get the SF and then get a thunder or mini.

Love my Mountainfly! Slightly less weight than the SF, with LOTS of protection!
But my Minifly gets the most use!

That's what I thought but I think Brandon from Warbonnet described this a little differently.

"basically correct, although the ground tieouts on the MtnFLy are not as far apart as the ground ties on the SF are."
