Wow, I really need to update as my GAIAGPS app looks nothing like this. Where does one acquire this gps file?

That's the new app. I prefer the old, but they're similar. In this specific case: http://www.linvillegorge.net/gpx.php

Usually you can google the place you want and find them in forums, group sites, etc. Just email the gpx (or other format) to yourself, open on your phone and click "open in Gaia GPS" and it will instantly import it like magic!

Too easy right? I love technology, but the world is getting awfully small and crowded.

I’ve been talking more to some folks and it seems that the avenza app for LG is “best” for now

Go to avenza and in their store you can search and find “Linville gorge wilderness” - I was told that this map is likely for now “best” although some folks are mapping out new info for a 2018 updated gpx type deal

I’m looking at the avenza one - it is far more seamless - each waypoint from the old one you see from my Gaia app screen shot is on there I think but spelled out - it’s more like a scanned image of a paper map with written descriptions but GPS capable.

That sounds oldschool. Definitely check out the other maps. USFS is probably much cleaner. Gaia Topo isn't bad either. US TOPO is the one with seams, like it was stitched together. That map above is real nice.

Yeah - avenza seems to be the gorge rat preference at this point from discussions I have had so far

    All good - feeling stoked

I even after hearing the trip report and bail out have jotted down a couple locals numbers I found from fb discussions in case of a need for an emergency ride

*(423) 440-1853‬ Chris Wagoner is the guy you need if you need a ride he even has a few rescue buddies that he works with. Call him before hand tell him your plan, wouldn’t hurt. Tell him Kirk told you about him, he helped me about 6 weeks ago. My wife contacted 10 services, he was the only one that would help. She was able to give him my coordinates to get us out.
