Well - I’m told that if water levels are down some bit of standing on exposed rock works - but if a bit up at all - I’m told a quick swim across what appears a narrow section

The group had video of them using some cord to shuttle gear across in mid air - pretty slick.

If the water is too up it would be unsafe to cross but conditions of course vary.

Interesting that the river crossing you find the most worrisome but makes some sense based on death stats I read about causes of death in the backwoods backpacking - drowning was highest as I recall

But for me the rugged landscape and endurance challenge has me the most “fearful” - which seems healthy to understand I guess

Well,if you can get the gear over on a line that makes it more palatable.Keep in mind I have always considered swimming to be "survival in water" and had a very unpleasant and unforgettable experience in the Chattahoochee River during my misspent youth......fortunately my buddy pulled me out.

I did the gorge a month or so ago. It was an adventure to say the least. I have had my ‘in reach’ for years now and I used it out of necessity for the first time, to get out of the gorge. Hopefully your trip will take place in a couple of months if you are planning on swimming across the Linville river.

To be clear - you mean you used the in reach to navigate or to activate SOS to “get out”??

Yes - we are looking at late April

Not SOS, but to contact someone to extract me. Late April makes more sense.

Wow ok just watched your video

Now I feel the impulse to have a couple locals or something to call as a “just in case” - may poke around on lg dot net and see if that is discussed
