Made me a DIY Grizz Beak

I finally decided to try this project after thinking about it for many months. This is kind of a practice version that I made out of some 1.9 oz PU coated ripstop nylon in woodland camo that I've had laying around for many years. It's just heavier than I would like, but this will give me an opportunity to decide if it makes sense to keep my Dutch Xenon Hex tarp and bring the beaks "just in case", or if I want to buy a tarp with doors. If I like the beaks, I'll make a lighter version out of silnylon or polysil.
Anyway, I want to say thanks to Grizz for sharing this design, and also a shout out to Kitsapcowboy, who's many DIY projects and detailed write ups were great inspiration and provided a lot of detailed information. Here are some pics:

Thanks for your kind words. Looks like a great fit! Your 1.9 PU-coated fabric is heavy, but it is certainly durable. Eventually, if you wind up replicating your build using a 1.1- to 1.3-ounce silpoly, your beak's finished weight should drop to just over 100 grams. They are handy, effective pieces of gear! Enjoy...

I love them. A handy piece of gear that allows your hex tarp to be a more multi-use asset.

I certainly takes a but of adjusting the tarp height/width with the first set up, doesn't it? Also, I screwed up when I angled the small ridgeline...I angled it the wrong way! I set up to see if I wanted to go through the hassle of seam ripping and doing it over, but it seems to fit ok as-is.

It does seem like they will be nice.

Question to the group: Would you agree that either side pullouts, or a pole mod is almost a necessity when pitching the tarp so low?

Looks great. I use a pole mod on my small asym tarp which is just above my ridgeline. It makes a huge difference, but is not a necessity - just a preference.

P.S. Why is your yard all white?

Looks like a solid windblocker. Nice work!

Thank you! I think I might try a couple of Dutch's Tarp pull out things and just prop up the pull outs with a couple sticks to open up the inside of tarp a little.
Yeah, I don't mind the white stuff for a little while, BUT, I'm ready to get back to GREEN any time!

Thanks! I can't wait to see how they perform in some stormy/windy weather. Seems like it will do the trick!
