Using New River as Top Quilt?

Has anyone used a New River UQ as a Top Quilt? AHE mentions it on the site as something that's possible.

I have searched high and low for this question but, I can't find an answer here (or anywhere else). And that's a first! Thanks everyone!

The reason I ask is that, my down top quilt is a bit warmer, and on a warm night it's hard to vent it. Additionally, my TQ is an 'all purpose' quilt that is designed for TQ, UQ or ground quilt.

I may actually try this here in the near future but I wanted to see what others thought first. The only real drawback I see is a lack of footbox.

Never used one, but the dimensions are the same as a JRB multifunction quilt. It should work fine (minus a footbox, but for warmer weather that shouldn’t be a deal breaker)!

I’ll have to lay out my JRB Hudson River and AHE New River and see if they are identical. Good catch Peppy!

The end channel cinch cord can be pulled pretty tight...much tighter than you need in Underquilt mode...so while it's not a foot box you can close it up somewhat to make the foot end of the quilt concave, wrapping it around the feet a bit. From there the NR can be used like a blanket over you. That bit of info dates back to when we took over KAQ and the Potomac and NR were the only two quilt models....since then we added the Specific top quilt models along with all the other underquilts and the blankets.

I tried it out yesterday and it worked wonderfully!

I have the long version, because I’m 6’3”; but the material on the foot end was plenty to wrap around and insulate plenty.
