How do you sleep in summertime?

How do you sleep in your hammock? I have learned a lot about pads and quilts... but, what's about summertime? I mean this really hot night's when you lay in a "pool" of your own sweat and it sounds like velcro when your skin unsticks from the fabric...

Do you use a sheet? And how do you clean your hammock and how often?

Never had a problem sweating in a hammock in the summer, since you get the air flow all around your body. In a tent that is a totally different story.

I cleaned my hammock exactly once; after my AT thru.

I put the whole thing in the wash on delicate and air dried it

Warm-weather thermoregulation in a hammock is usually pretty easy. Hammock bodies are breathable, and they are conducive to cooling convection even when it's humid and well above 70F. In summer, even when it cools down at night, a light microfiber sheet or liner is all the insulation you need for a comfortable night's sleep.

On hot summer nights it can reach high 80's or low 90's in Texas. It's still hot but I sleep much better in my hammock then on a pad in my tent. The breeze all around you does help a lot. Just wash it at the end of the summer, for a fresh start to fall.

I always have a synthetic t-shirt, shorts & socks on & the only skin coming in contact with the hammock is mid-thigh to mid-calf so I don't use a liner. I don't sweat a whole lot in that area so no worries for me.

As for cleaning your hammock... I treat it just like a bed sheet... it gets washed on the gentle cycle after 6 or 7 nights use. Usually after 3 trips. I sleep full-time in a hammock and it gets washed once a week.

Don't usually sweat too much in the hammock unless is around 80 at night. If I'm car camping, I hang a fan off my ridge line (the hang time hook has made this much easier). If it's above 70, I will also pull my UQ off to the side of the hammock, I still leave the UQ on the hammock just incase I get cold as the night goes on. As far as a TQ goes, I'll either have a light fleece blanket or my 50 degree TQ. Usually I start the night with the TQ off, and then cover as needed.

If l know there is no rain about l will slide away the tarp into the tarp skins, simple reason of allowing for any airflow or as much possible..... I did have made for me +10* c or a +50f sewn through TQ.... all thanks too Simon at tier gear Tasmania, this TQ packs down very small, breaths very well due to it being sewn through.... l store this TQ when not used inside a mini hammock that is folded in half, the two gathered ends tied together creates a bag, whilst fitted with a mitten hook clips from the RL and CL from the foot end, it is easy to reach down to deploy the TQ at 2am if a drop in temp does rolls in.... the UQ l will loosen off from the tight fitted seal of contact too hammock, however still maintain some contact made with the hammock for when l may have decided to push the UQ out to one side if too hot, l know when l slide it back under for a possible change in conditions l can still bank up enough body warmth with loft even though the UQ has been loosely fitted... the best part has to be knowing you are also floating, laying back watching the moon and stars.

It depends on where you're from. Unfortunately in these parts most of us quit hanging from the first of July till September as it is sleeping in a pool of sweat with our hot humid summers.

At some point it gets too hot and humid for me to want to sleep outside so obviously spring, fall, even some winter hammocking work better for me
