Weverton Cliffs, MD and SLD Winter Haven

Second time out with my new SLD Winter Haven tarp. Very happy with the additional privacy and wind blockage. I went with some Trail Dames on a one-nighter on AT near Weverton Cliffs. We setup Camp outside Ed Garvey Shelter. Good spots for hanging although I was the only one that night. I heard from someone that there were some hangers down by the spring a half mile down the slope, though. Got to show my rig to a few ground dwellers who were interested.

The wind really picked up that night and I woke up to the tarp slapping me. Ended up getting up around midnight to stake it out farther away from me. I’m still learning and getting used to all the extra tie-outs. Only ever used a simple rectangle tarp before this with only one tie out each side.

Nice setup, that’s a section of MD that I need to do.

I recently added the spreader bars for my winter tarp, makes setup MUCH easier, especially if you want to adjust the overall tarp height.

I too love my SLD Winter Haven and here it's shown with the top poles. I typically do not take the top poles when back packing though. Beautiful area and always great to get out this time of year.

Awesome! I live in Washington County and have done the entire AT in Maryland... it's so close to my house that I should try to get out there more. I believe I belong to a Trail Dames group but I don't remember seeing this trip. Maybe next time!
