    New Big Winter Tarp.

I made a nonsymmetrical tarp. I used 11 yards of Xenon wide. I designed it to have one side come down form the ridge line at a 60° angle and the other side to come down at a 45° angle. I set up so the side of the hammock with the zipper will be on the 45° side leaving most of the space under the tarp on the side I will be on.

This is what the 3 views should look like. I found I am not a seamstress. My seams took up more fabric than I had budgeted for. I have adjusted the cutout dimensions to allow for a little wider seams and hem.

I have had a Superfly for years and it has served me well through many a storm that would have shredded a lesser tarp but it is getting old and I wanted something bigger especially for colder weather. My pole mod poles for the Superfly fit on this tarp well and open up lots of room inside. It weighs 31 Oz with tie out string and continuous ridge line and stuff sack. I used the magnetic door latches and they work well.

That is some seriously innovative out-of-the-box thinking on your tarp design; you've taken advantage of the freedom DIY gives you to tailor gear to your specific preferences. Dutch's Xenon Wide is great waterproof fabric and wonderful to sew. I look forward to posting your analysis of the function of your design after you've taken a few trips with it and had a chance to evaluate it critically. I find with my own DIY there is almost always a v1.1 and a v2.0 revision to any worthwhile design. Keep up the good work.

I know what you mean by additional versions. I have already modified the dimensions to give more room for seams. Don’t think there will be a version 2 until this one is wore out.

Even with the BB inside there is room to move around. I sometimes set my BB up with the poles from my pole mod so I don’t have the pullout line running across where I want to walk.

It is like having my hammock hung in a tent.

Not set up very neatly and the doors are not staked down

I am surprised there are not more tarps made for hammock use with one side larger than the other.

I have spent 32 nights under this tarp now and can see what I would do differently now. The tarp is bigger than my superfly and should have longer spreader bars. I used the spreader bars from my superfly and put the pull points the same distance apart. They should be farther apart. The seam is not at the ridge and so water tends to puddle sometimes at the seam so care needs to be given to do a good job of seam sealing. Love the tarp. Like a floorless tent.

I want to give this a bump. Very nice setup. I'm Curious about the seam puddling. I imagine it's from the pole mod creating a bit of a roof. Can staking it down a little tighter on that side eliminate it ?

Would definitely like more pictures at different angles all set up. Excellent design/work And with compliments from Kitsapcowboy, I can see this becoming popular.
