    Safe suspension continuous loop/whipping setup?

Hi, sorry if this info can be found somewhere already, there is just such a wealth of information to sift through and most people tend to be use sewn channels when I research this.

I hit the ground once with a different setup and it was not fun at all and I'd like to try to avoid it again as much as possible. Is this a fairly safe method to use?

From what I can tell, once there is sufficient load placed on this, not a whole lot of weight should be working to slide the whipping off of the end of the hammock, but I figured I'd check to get some veteran opinion/advice.

Here is what I currently have set up.

Here is the setup that dumped me in the ground previously:

    Taken from this video:

It looks like it wouldn't fail, especially with a Ridgeline attached to the quicklinks, but would you believe that it was able to work it's way in the little channel under the whipping and slide it's way through.

The whipping was tight, but too much cloth material underneath it allowed for a sort of channel to be made for it to pass through.

It worked for a little bit, just long enough to feel comfortable, then whack!

    Thanks!
I've hung many a night on my table cloth hammock with a setup nearly identical to this one. Should work just fine, especially after your CL is "set" in place by body weight.

I can see why the other system failed. Glad it didn't fail over the hot coals of a fire or broken glass lol.

That will work, but if you go around a second time or more so that the CL is set up more like a prussic it is less likely to loosen up when the hammock is not loaded.

Good point, and it will also give you a little more room to play with in a short hang situation.

It certainly will work, or at least mine has worked for quite a long time.

I would larkshead the continuous loop with the spliced (thick) part around the hammock, unless you did secure the ends with additional stitches. I know at least one case where the ends were pulled out during the night and the user went down. Not myself this time I'm glad to say

    Safe suspension continuous loop/whipping setup?

If there is a hem in the end--that you can get a cord through to make the end a little larger than whipped section of hammock--then it is less likely your suspension will slip off end of hammock. You can tie the cord on hem to make a gathered ball--or you can leave cord in hem channel and sew it shut on both ends.

Then a prusik or larks head with continuous loop or loop on end of whoopie sling should not slip off end while you are in hammock.

If you have a gathered ball at hammock ends then I think you can skip whipping---and use a larks head.
