VIDEO: First backpacking trip in Oregon

The fires this year pushed us out of a couple different places that we wanted to go for our Fall Campout. Luckily I have a long list of places I want to go. Northeastern Oregon had dodged the fires this year and so we made our way down to Troy, Oregon to hike the Wenaha River Trail.

I had never backpacked in Oregon before. I know that the eastern side of Oregon was much different than the western side and I was excited to see some new country.

Although there were no fires this year.... a couple years earlier the river trail had been hit hard by fire. It was a very different landscape than anything that I had hiked before.

As always, we had a great time and enjoyed the trail and the river.

    Thanks for checking it out!

Beautiful area & it's always nice to hike with water nearby, especially when it's hot enough to get in a swim or two! Camping near a river makes for great way to end the day too... easy way to get to sleep! Mother Nature sure has a way of renewing herself, even if it messes up the views sometimes.

I've never hiked with a weapon before. Not knocking it & I guess it's better safe than sorry, just never felt the need to carry one. What was everybody packing?

I was the only one without a weapon on this trip. I am not exactly sure what they were. They were huge and heavy. I am pretty sure that they would not take them again. I do know that there was one Ruger .44 & a Glock .40, but not sure what the big cannons were.

We had thought that we were going into the Bob Marshall Wilderness and they had purchased the guns in case of a close encounter with a Grizzly. Then since they had them (and liked extra weight) they brought them along.

For the record, I am not a big fan of guns on backpacking trips. I feel that they are unnecessary. That said, I don't care if others in our group carry them. They are for self defense only and not a shot was fired on the trip.

Looked like a great trip other than that 2500 ft uphill climb at the end Shame all that area was so burned. Thanks for taking us along.

Great video as usual. Liked the look of that area. Nice to be following a river.

It was a shame about the burn. I wish I could've walked through when it was all green. Although it did give me a perspective that I wouldn't have got otherwise.

It was pretty cool. Since we couldn't have fires, we decided on not cooking up any fish, but he was able to catch fish all the way up the river.
