Question Using PU Caoted 2.1oz RS for Hammock

    Good morning all,

I have an old bolt of 2.1oz Ripstop PU coated Nylon from when I was making tarps and stuffsack about 12 years ago. It has been stored well and is in great shape - no peeling, tackiness, etc...

I have a spare set of whoopee slings and was thinking of making a winter hammock from it. My concerns are:
    1. Would that material be seriously weakened after 10-12 years? FWIW, My 10-year old Hennessy has held up well. Should UI have concerns about either, both?

    1. If used, and I am thinking of a double bottom, will I awaken in a pool of sweat, as when I hang with my ensolite pad? I would be using a JRB Winter Nest underquilt and then my down -5 sleeping bag as a comforter.

Looking for thoughts and opinions. Brainstorming - Just shout'em out as you think of them!!!

    Thanks
    Rick AKA Toolshed.

Following with great interest. I would think it should be ok if there was no UV exposure. Interested to hear the wisdom of the hive-mind.

Since your material is PU coated ;aka- waterproof, I think you will be swiming. Might be better utilized for another tarp or pack cover/ rain jacket/ poncho. Honestly you want your hammock and UQ/ TQ to breathe.

uncoated fabrics are a much better choice. PU will hold condensation from body moisture.

OK Thank you for the input. It was my line of thinking, but I figured I would gather a few others thoughts. Does anyone still cruise Walmart's looking for remnant bolts of 1.9/2.1/4.0 nylon? I think I might start checking for this again.
