The Vee for me, but mainly because I am using 300lb Dyneema fishing line on end tieouts, so doubling up adds a bit of strength.
And the 3:1 mechanical advantage is handy too.

With me, it's not so much the sound but the vibration transmitted through the system when the lines rub. I don't stake my hammock out because I like some sway and whenever the hammock and tarp suspensions rub together I feel that vibration and it "harshes my mellow". Thus, I use a V to mitigate that sensation.
If that's not a problem for you, don't use the V. I'm keeping mine =) HYOH, YMMV etc etc...
No damage. Lot of forests around my stomping ground are either old or young. Big trees with potential widowmakers, or younger small diameter trees that are stout enough to hang on, but which hanging on means you don't get a very wide V. So, consequently, it just doesn't matter, I'm getting some contact anyway.

Never used a V in my ridge line.
I use one of three setups depending on a number of factors and none create the V. A CRL with Dutch Hook and Dutch toggle, with mini-ucrs; SMURL.. which is separate ridge lines with Dutch Hooks and mini-ucrs; SLS, which pitches the tarp & hammock on the same straps with no real dedicated ridge line.
On the first two, I have the ridge line come off one side of the tree and the straps come off the opposite. And I like to set the RLs so they follow the same 30* angle as the straps. No V needed.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I use the V here. I tend to move around a lot on the first nights sleep and dont like the lines rubbing on each other. All of my lines and hardware are always attatched and ready to go along with tarp sleeves.

No V for me. Split ridgeline with Dutch hooks and UCRs larksheaded to the tarp. The rubbing hasn't caused any issues and I'm a gram weenie so carrying twice the needed line to make a V doesn't interest me.
Ebay,

It's the 1.2mm stuff, works well with aluminium loop aliens.
