    Hey

Greetings from MD. I've mostly been a dayhiker (with some car sleeping and a couple backpacking trips), but I decided I want to start doing some overnights. I got an ENO doublenest and slapstraps for $20 on craigslist, which even after reading about how mediocre the ENO DN is, and how bad the slapstraps are, I figure it's still a good place to start...I've been sucked into the vortex of youtube's hammocking vids, btw someone should compile shuge's ridiculous stunts and expressions, opened 300 tabs of different hammock products, and old forum threads. After a week of reading/watching everything, I've concluded that there's an absolutely ridiculous amount of information and I'll probably spend the next week reading the rest of this site...

Ya the Slapstras are pretty bad. They stretch like crazy over the course of a night. The Atlas Straps are certainly an upgrade, but as you'll find out there are SO many options and stuff. But in all honesty whatever gets you out of the house and hanging is a good thing! I honestly had no clue when I got into hammocking that it would be so complicated!

Do the slapstraps stretch over a dry night? or only when they get wet?

And I'm looking forward to spending some more time outdoors

I've never used Slapstraps, but my understanding is that they will stretch some because they're nylon, which is a material prone to stretching. I know a couple of people who use them and they don't think it's a big deal, so YMMV. IMO, get out with what you have now, research, and upgrade once you find what you think you want (and can afford it- it ain't always cheap lol).

I have ENOs (with Atlas straps) and love them and sleep comfortably in them. Others claim that they are too short and are only good for napping, or no good at all. It's all about the individual. I always say whatever works for you is what's right for you.

    Happy hanging!

I have found that nylon straps will stretch a lot when you first get in the hammock and then a little more over time. It is important to minimize the load if you want to minimize the stretch. Meaning, hang as close to 30 degrees as possible and you will be able to live with the stretch once you get used to hanging a little higher to start.
The essential part of me can not be discussed here. Ask me in person.
