Ultimate hammock straps. Tapered = Ultralight

These straps are pretty neat. I would have never thought of saving weight with tapered straps. 1 inch around the tree and only 1/2 inch at the hammock. That's genius! See the product here

I mean really, one could use 1" tree straps and use all Amsteel if you want to go even lighter..

Or 1” dyneema straps at full length and still save a ton of weight.

Points for experimenting, but I don't think that's cool with the big trees and short straps. You'll end up with some parts of the straps that are less than an inch digging into the tree. I also feel safer with more surface area grabbing the tree, making it harder for them to slip down. I may even move up to 1.5” or 2” someday.

I got my set from the original Kickstarter although I've seen them on Amazon. They are very nice straps, but as mentioned above, big trees are problematic.

The kids use these now and I switched to Beetle Buckles and straps from Dutch.

Come on people...you're better than that.

"Each strap measures 10 feet long and tapers from 1 inch to half an inch wide—and thanks to the Nano Weave, the bottom of the taper remains every bit as strong as the top. The wider part helps avoid girdling and damage to the tree’s bark and cambium, while the thinner part keeps the weight to a minimum."

    Pure overpriced marketing hype.

If the narrow bottom half has the same strength as the wide part, it has to have the same amount of material in it which would weigh the same. All that has been done is to change the weave making if narrower and I'll bet thicker.

A single 10' 1600 lb strap weighs 4 oz and the pair costs $14.99.

A single 10' 1500 lb (standard) strap weighs 2.15 oz and a pair costs $6.80 from Dutchware. So approximately the same weight and bulk for half the price.

But hey...if overpaying for a 'shiny new object' is your thing...go for it.
