Cool Hanging out in southeast Louisiana, wishing I was anywhere else!

Hello fellow hangers! I'm 32, Born and raised on the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain in Mandeville, LA. I've been hammocking for about 3 years now. I work at a school (lots of holidays!), and me and my work buddy who also loves camping/hiking/hanging love to get away as often as we can, with or without our boys. There aren't alot of awesome places around here, thats why I love to get away.
Some of my favorite places I've hung:
    • Lost Lake, Indian Peaks Wilderness, near Nederland, CO (with my denver-based brother)
    • Homochitto National Forest, MS
    • Great Smoky Mountains (smokemont campground every year)
    • Nearby Fontainebleau State Park is OK

    Coming soon:
    • 3 day backpacking trip in Sipsie Wilderness, AL over Mardi Gras break
    • 3 day backpacking trip from smokemont to Mt. Laconte (GSM) over Easter Break

Sometimes my favorite place to hang up is my own backyard. My 4 year old often joins me in his hammock. The low was 19 the other night which is pretty unusual for Louisiana so I thought I would test out my gear which is rated for 20. I slept great. My wife calls me crazy for sleeping in the back yard on a cold winter night, but I'm pretty sure she secretly loves having the big bed to herself. I really like cold weather so I would love to one day permanently move out of what I call the armpit of america. I hate humidity!

    I hang out with
    • Kammok roo hammock w/ kammok's straps. I absolutly love this hammock. I am 6' 1" and it fits me great. The fabric feel so good, and has a slight stretch to it not unlike those diamond weave garbage bags (but in a classy way!)
    • Arrowhead Equipment New River synthetic underquilt
    • Sierra Designs Zissou 20 sleeping bag (I often unzip this down to the footbox and use it like a topquilt. This bag has alot of extra fluffy material at the top and its really nice to have in the hammock. Besides, when I camp with my family in the tent its nice to have a traditional bag. I'm sure I will have a real topquilt one day)
    • Arrowhead Equipment dynaglide adjustable structural ridgeline
    • Dutchware continuous ridgeline w/ wasp and tato tarp connectors
    • Kammok glider tarp

Overall I love my gear. I just ordered an incubator 20 econ from hammock gear and will probably sell my AHE new river UQ as I get more into backpacking and want lighter more compressible gear. Other interests are paddleboarding, swimming, exploring, hiking, basically anything outdoors.

P.S. me and my buddy are huge Shug fans. Shug basically solidified my slight interest in hammocking into an obsession. We will often tell each other wooo buddy while hiking, or do our best bad slingblade impressions. Always a riot.

Howdy djpattiecake! I'm right here in Covington. Also lived in this area all my life. I've been hammock camping about 3 years or so now.
We are starting to organize the 7th Annual Louisiana Hammock Hang "2018 Louisiana Spring Swing". The past couple of years was as Kisatchie Bayou Campground and will likely be there again this year. A little past the Alexandria area to the Northwest.
If you ever want to chat hammocks or plan a hammock trip nearby let me know. I've also been to Homochitto State Park for camping. It's a nice park, especially the Primitive camping area.
