    Underquilt Shape

How much does the shape of the underquilt affect how well it fits the hammock? I'm planning on making a down quilt and wondering how much benefit tapering or using darts adds. For those that use a quilt with a taper or darts, do they help prevent gaps or are they just for weight savings?

    Depends on suspension type.

I made my current full length quilt with a tapered foot end and traditional channel suspension. It never really fit well after fiddling with it for two years. When I converted it to clew suspension it fit great, but I wish I had not tapered it. I also wish it was a few inches wider now.

There are a few threads recently about building Wookie clones that talk about darts and taper strategies.
