Yeah, it wasn't a total failure, just the UCR part haha. I did test out some other new stuff that worked like a champ =)

ie, required to make it work 100% of the time

i'm betting there's a shug vid demonstrating it
I had that discussion with Tac Blades when he first announced his tutorial. If i wasn't so lazy I'd dig back and find it haha, but I am =)

I have always used a prusik. In the end you will move on to another suspension. Don't spend a lot of time on your hammock journey with the UCR

There was a thread on it too. Maybe in the DIY forum, I don't remember.

I weigh about as much as you do and have only had my UCRs slip when I didn’t sufficiently milk the bury. That said, I did use knots to keep the free end lifted, if not quite taut.

I have been done with ucr's for a while, i have had them slip along with others. If you have to tie any kind of knot. I rather just stick with a woopie configuration even if it a few grams more.

Until... I tried to use them. I set up, eased myself into my hammock. Just about the time my full weight (240ish) settled in, zzzziiiipppp I hit the ground. Nothing broke, the constricting part of the head-end UCR just didn't hold. I tried it again making sure I "milked" the constrictors and even threw in a half hitch on the tag end but to no avail.

I've heard of people using prussiks to prevent slippage, but when Tac Blades first released his tutorial he seemed quite sure that prussiks weren't necessary. I can only assume he's not quite as heavy as me.

My guess is that I'm still just too heavy for them. Maybe when I get down around 200 or so I'll give them another shot.

Out of curiosity, are there any bigger guys out there using UCRs? If so, how did you make yours?
I'm around #215 and have been using UCR's for almost as long as I've been hanging, made them for a few others as well. Haven't had an issue yet, with the exception of the second year on a dynaglide set. I was pushing the weight limit on those so no real surprise there! When they did let go they just gradually lowered me to the ground,a few times that night until I half hitched them permanently in place. Always make mine with a prusik and the key, also the most difficult part of constructing them, is getting the prusik as close as possible to the exit of the bury. I have tried any other variation, as I haven't found a need to "improve" them. There was a pictorial in the diy subforum, but thanks to photobucket it's gone.... I use the Samson recommend bury length for whoopies, 8"+?? Milking the bury, I've found, is more important with a UCR than whoopies, I grab the end of the hammock as I lean back and milk that bury.

While I too am experimenting with another suspension option, I see myself going back to the tried and true UCR in the near future.....
