Who is hanging in the New Year?

We just completed setting up our hammocks for a New Years Eve hang.
    [AIMG]FDF6D88C-97D3-4292-A7A2-649B7E27F9EC.jpg[/AIMG]

Here in Iowa we are expecting -22 degrees tonight, with a 10 mph wind on top of those low temps. Double UQ for bottom insulation plus a zero degree North face bag covered with a JRB Mt. Washington 4 TQ. Should be personal lows for both my son and I, provided we don’t turn into icebergs. We have pitched our tarps low to the ground, with doors fully closed.

Our wives think that we are crazy; perhaps by morning we will agree!

Anyone else bringing in the New Year by hanging outside?

That's quite a setup & looks like you guys are in for a toasty night... and upside down to boot!

I'm going to give it a try tonight myself, experimenting with the Superior Hammock I won at the Texas Hang back in October. Won't be anywhere near -22 degrees, but it is forecasted for a low of 16 degrees with the wind chill putting it around 4 degrees. No winter tarp though which means I'll be a layering mofo!! As added insurance, I'll make an attempt to numb the cold with numerous doses of my favorite elixir before saying "nighty night" & Happy New Year... Lagavulin single malt scotch.

Been out 4 nights in a row, maybe 5 tonight. The fun will be Friday when it goes to 0 degrees.

I have been sleeping outside every night since mid-October.

Only have 25°-30° gear until next week...so we are stacking quilts tonight.

It's already in the low 20s with my wind chimes a chirpin.

Just returned to the warmth of my son’s kitchen after experiencing -16F degrees last night. The wind was blowing consistently through the night producing a wind-chill of -32 degrees. I was glad that I had overlapped the doors on both ends of my Superfly.
I was very toasty throughout the night in the JRB High Sierra Sneiveller. I actually got too warm when using it and my North Face Aleutian, so I laid on the open mummy bag and used the Aleutian mostly as side insulation. Can’t say enough about the High Sierra quilt — it exceeded its rating by 10-15 degrees.
The combination of a JRB Mt. Washington 4 covered with an ENO Blaze on the outside of the Chameleon kept all of the chill away from my underside.
I can’t say enough about the Chameleon top cover. Felt absolutely no breeze except near the face vent. My son used a heavy, large wool blanket draped over his ridge line to accomplish the same wind breaking effect, as his tarp did not have dedicated doors.
All and all, it was a great hang to bring in the New Year!
