I've been using my HH with ENO Atlas XL straps. I've made the connection to the straps a few different ways, and they all seem to work, but I think I'd like to simplify a bit. Among the options I have used are:
- Tie loop in rope with alpine butterfly knot, then connect to strap with biner. This works fine and gives me easy adjustability, but leaves me with 5 or 6 feet of excess rope at each end.
- Tie rope directly to straps with becket hitch. This also works fine, but is a little messy. It also sacrifices a little bit of simplicity in the adjustment as I need to retie the knot each time to adjust.
Honestly, to the extent that I'm going to continue to use the Atlas straps, I'd like to go back to the simplicity of my ENO DN, where I just have a carabiner between the continuous loop on the hammock and the strap loops.
My question is, would the original Hennessey rope be good to use to create these loops? I'm thinking I can take the rope off, cut down to size for loops, then add back onto the hammock. Would gain simplicity in setup, and leave 10-12' of unused rope at home. Any downsides to this approach?
I know the Atlas straps are heavy, and eventually I will fully switch out for a lighter solution. I've dropped a good chunk of coin on other backpacking gear over the last 6 months or so though, so looking to work with what I have in this area.
