Tensa Outdoor and the commercial packable tensahedron stand

Latherdome and I (Raftingtigger) are forming a new company - Tensa Outdoor. The plan is to roll my endevour - TiggzCraftworkz hammock stands - into this new company. Things are not finalized yet.

We have just shipped the Beta tensahedron stands to our testers and if all goes well we are hoping to start commercial sales in time for the spring/summer hammock season. We are not making any promises, nor are we taking any pre-orders. If you want to stay up on any news then subscribe to this thread (use the thread tools tab) and you will get the latest info.

As a teaser the Beta stands are under 11# with bag, guylines, and anchor. This packs under 20" x 4" x 4". Retail price is not yet determined.

Our plans include a full range of packable hammock support options from the full tensahedron stand to an updated version on the CarCamp and the NoGround Trekking systems.

    Hang Safe,

    Raftingtigger, aka Cheryl

That's too hot a question to touch at the moment! Materials and labor run through the usual formulas: too expensive, likely. But we're too early in the development process to be confident that our design, materials and process are cost/value-optimized. We'll let our beta testers tell us what kind of price they think may be viable relative to alternatives.

I will say that with quick-and-dirty DIY implementations from Home Depot hovering around the $20 mark, trying for cheap as a commercial endeavor seems a fool's errand. Getting the packed size and weight down well below what's within easy reach of MYOGer's, while maintaining ease of use and of course safety: that's the natural target for a commercial flavor.

Hi, I'm replying to a comment you made about motorcycle camping using the Tensa hammock stand, and wanted to know if you have actually used it for that. I am considering purchasing one for the same purpose [plus car camping] but I would like an in-the-field review.

    I'd appreciate it.

I personally use it for motorbike camping, as do many of our customers. We specifically designed it to fit within common panniers. You can tie off directly to the bike as anchor even on blacktop. Here's one customer's YouTube demo/review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMa3YrGDwYw ; and another, same guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_atXnwdTY3c . Some details have changed since posted, but 98% same.
