Latherdome, if I’m correct, the recommended method/best practice for securing both the small toggle and new toggle is using a carabiner at the outside of the loop. So, switching from small to new toggles won’t eliminate this carabiner.

Would it be advisable to use use the same carabiner for securing both the loop and the guylines?

We will recommend that in forthcoming documentation revision. The large toggle is not vulnerable like the pushpin (small toggle? What small toggle?) but there’s additional benefit to positioning the carabiner outside, in that it is less apt to get pinched or bent between poles, especially in the base position. So you could eliminate biner, but if you use it, best to have it outside.

Thank you, Latherdome. That makes sense - carabiner outside. I think that will improve my setup.

I haven't had a failure, but one of my 'push pins' has bent. I'm using caribiners, so I'll just move them to the outside instead of between the poles and everything should be good. It really wont make anything more difficult or time consuming as I leave the poles connected and caribiners in place when I pack up my stand.

Optinaut, I didn’t answer your question completely, re sharing the carabiner for multiple lines.

The problem is that when these lines pull in multiple directions, they can sometimes get the lines pulling at the wiregate (weak). Possible to avoid, but easier I think just to loop over an available pole end. If you threaded the connection such that the carabiner is on the guyline side, maybe best to use the biner for the guyline, and the 2 pole ends for the ridgeline and hammock.

Some people have had a guyline pull a foot off, when the guyline angle is shallow enough. It is more secure to have the guyline come through the inside of the pole crossing, then over a pole end. Other people have had hammock suspension tear a foot in two, when the strap was right around the end of the foot instead of on the pole. Don’t do that :-)

Good idea to assure that the baseline connections always have the carabiner on the inside face, straight shot to the opposite side. This avoids twisting the biner.

As you can tell by all these maybes, there’s not a rigid one way. More like a small collection of things NOT to do, all else permissible.

Thank you, Latherdome! I have been using only my hammock’s ridgeline and hanging my hammock’s CLs from the pole ends. So, sounds like I can use the carabiners for my guylines AND securing the toggles.

Quick question which I think has probably been addressed. - I have an original stand -UCR's, straight tubing. I like the idea of the toggle/loop connector but the holes are too small for the larger (12mm) toggle. I think I can drill them out to the right dimension - but concerned there is something I need to worry about when doing it?

The pushpin-loop assemblies, formerly small toggle assemblies, are still available, but should be secured with a carabiner at the outside of the loop. If you want the large toggle assemblies, drilling out to 11mm suffices. More time consuming than the drilling is the deburring and smoothing of the hole edges to prevent cutting the lines. My full-time job some days is deburring holes :-)

I'm thinking that a larger bag would be nice, with the webbing and the tarp extensions the current bag is indeed very snug. I might eventually get the new toggles and the poles with 12mm holes, but there isn't any great hurry. Any thoughts on when a new larger bag may become available.

Unlikely before fall, which I guess is spring for you. We’re looking into less bulky webbing too, but nothing beats UCRs for low bulk. Note that the single bulkiest line is the ridgeline, which you don’t even need if your hammock’s got one, so you can leave it at home if the bag’s quite full.
