No. We will continue to bundle Orange Screws for the foreseeable future as the best all-around anchor at modest cost. These "Boomstakes" are ideal for ground too hard to drive Orange Screws into, while performing comparably to Orange Screws in most medium ground as well. In very loose ground, Orange Screws tend to perform better, but it's complex to say. Also, Boomstakes are slightly lighter and more compact than Orange Screws, making them more attractive for backpackers. Boomstakes will cost a bit more than Orange Screws.

BradA72, we may sell subcomponents loose eventually, but for this initial release we don't want to cannibalize our few sets. It's also hard to support a product when key components like the stake are not something we've tested and can vouch for. For example, the booms can damage some aluminum stakes, but not the 8mm titanium ones we're going with. We DO want to know whether 30 or 40mm is more desirable for most, so we get ordering quantities right.

Understandable, I’ve got a bunch of the Tito ti stakes and just want the booms but you have to do what’s smart business for Tensa.

I'd guess 40mm: at the point where you're moving a Tensa4 around, the ~2.25g extra for each peg is pretty irrelevant to the discussion, so bigger (and hence more holding power) is better.

And do include the Boomstake Hammer with Tensa Outdoor laser-printed on the handle ala MSR Stake Hammer to complete the bundle ..

Boomstakes are more relevant to Solo and the forthcoming Trekking Treez, which have much more demanding anchoring requirements than Tensa4. As these are more suitable for backpacking, there’s more focus on low weight.

BradA72, we might work something out. Rather keep transactional stuff in email and out of forums.

Product is live. Pictures not included yet but here they are. We have a limited supply, with VERY few 40cm stakes until mid August.Boomstake in and out of ground.jpgboomstake in ground.jpg

What are people finding is the best tarp for use with the Tensa stand? I have a few but all seem to have one drawback or another when used with the stand. Ideally looking for something available to buy in Europe (UK in particular) and one which provides good coverage for our often wet and windy weather.

A basic 11' hex is the simplest to use with the stand without any compromise in setup or extra parts like the tarp extension poles. If you think doors are a must, the Warbonnet tarps seem to work regardless of which model you choose. Shug has posted photos that show the Minifly in conjunction with the stand.

See his post here within this same thread.

Basic hex tarps work fine, though you might want some kind of extension (either the official one, or a couple of old tent poles and some funky knotwork) to get it tight. As far as UK availability goes, Paria Outdoors does free shipping, and I'm yet to find anything to complain about with their tarps. They also do a square tarp with plent, which works pretty well as a tarp with doors (though it only comes in 8 foot (which I find fine, but you might find a bit on the short side with the tensahedron) or 12 foot (which will need some slightly clever pitching). There are about a million cheap square tarps going, too, though some you might need to either add some tieout points or apply some ingenuity to get working as doored tarp.
