Moving to NC, trip ideas?

Carolina Beach/Wilmington area.

I've not camped/hiked in that area, but the first thing that came to my mind was the Mountains to Sea trail that is pretty close. You could almost hike home from the Smokies!

I’m sure the locals here know the best places. I Was just in Pisgah National Forrest a few weeks ago. Beautiful!

West of Asheville is Mt. Pisgah, north of Asheville is Pisgah Forest. I really like the area west north of Brevard, up Hwy 276, and either side of the Blue Ridge Pkwy, specifically the Art Loeb trail.

Without being repetitive with Linville, Pisgah and Great Smokey's.

I like the Uwharrie NF and Morrow Mt. State Park (We have a group hang at Yates Place in the spring on time change weekend) Many trails and lakes all around.

Doughton Park: Off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Many trails and Basin Cove (primitive camping by permit) Hike in and camp. Makes a great weekend!
Stone Mt. State Park: (Not far from Doughton park) Very clean park with trout fishing, camping, trails etc.

Art Loeb.
He was a big deal in the Carolina Mountain Club, and the trail is named after him.
I did it a few years ago before I did a long solo in grand canyon.
